Closter Boy Scouts - Troop 63
Closter Cub Scouts - Pack 20

In Closter we provide boys in grades 2 through 5  the opportunity to join  Cub Scout Pack 20.  Children can enter scouting in September or February.

Ranks within cub scouting: Wolf -  grade 2, Bear - grade  3, Webelos - grades 4 and 5 (boys can enter at any time).

Each level works on individual achievements while learning about nature and the community in which they live.  This is achieved through service to the community, den projects and working on their scout achievements while having FUN.

Group Activities include :
Cuboree - local competition with boys in nearby communities.
Fall campout -  cabin camping at local scout camps
Spring camping - Visits to regional science centers, i.e., Liberty Science Center, Norwalk Maritime Museum.
Summer Campout - This is the unofficial end of the scout calendar.  At this campout the entire family is invited to Camp Alpine for hiking and seeing first hand the accomplishments of the scouts.

After reaching the Webelos rank, boys can then move up to Boy Scouts.
Boys can join at any level and sign up at time.

Boys in grade 6 and above can join the Boy Scouts.  Meetings are held at the Boys Scout Cabin located near the Nature Center.  Group and individual achievements are encouraged and  the path to Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank in scouting, can be a rewarding experience.  The boys go on historical hikes, learn camping and survival skills.

For further information please contact Dennis Altendorfer, Scoutmaster, Boy Scouts or Mark Hettinger, Packmaster, Cub Scouts.  You can also learn more about scouting on the Boy Scouts of America website:  www.scouting.org.

Closter Democratic Club

With only 40% of Closter's declared voters and 20% of its electorate, the party has been the principal source of the Borough's elected officials over the past six years. Its cardinal mission is the containment of Closter's budget by utilizing to the fullest extent its current resources without sacrificing the standard of living within its borders. The Club's meetings, customarily on the third Monday of the month at Senior Center, are open to all. For further information, contact Joel Zelnik 201-784-9080 or Fred Pitofsky 201-767-7528.

The Closter Lions Club

"We Serve"
Lions Clubs International is the largest civic organization in the world. As of July 31, 2002, Lions Clubs International had 1,417,896 members. Its 43,736 clubs cover 735 districts and 185 countries and geographic areas. The name Lions Club was adopted because the courage, strength, and fidelity of the king of beasts would symbolize the aims of the club. Its philosophy is service through commitment.

Throughout the world, Lions Clubs fill a need: the social welfare of communities, the encouragement of the young, the promotion of education, and the advancement of medicine and health care, especially in the field of sight conservation. Lionism also serves as a means of promoting peace and fostering friendships between the citizens of different nations. Lions Clubs continue to grow in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Australia and throughout Asia. The appeal of Lionism is apparent in the formerly Communists nations where clubs are now being formed.

The Closter Lions Club received its charter on June 10, 1939. Its founding members were 21 in number -- merchants and businessmen dedicated to service. Over the course of 62 years, the Closter Lions Club has undertaken many building projects to benefit the Borough of Closter, sponsored various youth organizations, provided college scholarship money for deserving Closter youth, and assisted individuals in need. They have also supported projects for the blind and mentally handicapped.

Closter P.T.O.

The philosophy of the PTO is to provide additional services and opportunities for our children.  One of the ways we achieve that goal is to raise money.  We believe that the PTO is there for the children of Closter, and we encourage all parents to volunteer their time and energy in an effort to raise money to meet the increasing demands of a better education.  This allows us to keep the cost of class trips down and to purchase items not included in the school budget.  We also help fund the continuing education of our teachers through college workshops.

Besides raising money, we've started non-profit programs, such as: book purchasing for children in grades K-4 and the safety helmet program (at cost).

The PTO is an enourmous success because of the hundreds of volunteers who donate their time, effort and energy on a continuing basis.
